Callie has finally escaped her abusive home-life and just wants to exist as a normal girl, as normal every bit she can be- and maybe make a few friends in her new town she moved to with her aunt
Jump Spirit was an unexpected detect that I was excited to read, but had no great expectations for. But WOW were my expectations blown away afterwards reading this story. I vicious in love with the characters and the story and so apace that I promise this author writes fast, because I Demand the next installment in this serial!Callie has finally escaped her abusive dwelling-life and just wants to be as a normal daughter, as normal as she can be- and perchance make a few friends in her new boondocks she moved to with her aunt. Only for Callie this doesn't seem possible. Her first morning time in her new house she wakes to an intruder in her room, and not just whatsoever intruder, but a guy about her historic period who was murdered a few months ago. Yeah, he's a ghost. And his friends aren't but normal guys either. But neither is Callie, who is able to see Felix (the ghost).
After meeting and befriending these guys Callie chop-chop learns that she's non the only ane out their with weird abilities. Her showtime new friend is a ghost, and the others range from a vampire, werewolf, and a dark and light nephilim. Learning that so many beings be in this world is an adjustment for Callie, but she rapidly accepts the guys and their assist in discovering who she actually is and what she can do.
Callie is a character who is overcoming a traumatic past, but nonetheless is able to open herself (yet slowly or petty) to the guys and let them in her life. She still has some triggers when it comes to certain objects or circumstances simply her drive for a new life filled with friends and prophylactic, and the support of her new friends, keeps her strong enough to move past her traumas. Callie is introduced to an entire world she had no idea nigh, and has some huge bombs dropped on her about her past, who she is, and what she'll exist able to do. But despite this life changing data overload, she manages to deal and accept her new life, with the new people in it who truly intendance about her.
This book doesn't shy away from Callie'south PTSD which I really liked. It keeps her very real and understandable. She has her issues, and some of the guys have some besides. They're not simply basic 2-D characters simply people with real problems and tragic pasts who still manage to live their lives, whether burying their bug or dealing with them.
The separate POV in this story was swell also. While more often than not from Callie'south perspective, the guys too had a few capacity in their POVs giving u.s.a. a glimpse into their thoughts, pasts, and reactions to Callie. While this is definitely a ho-hum burn reverse harem (YA but I think later moving on to being NA) and Callie and the guys are at this point but friends, I tin can definitely see the harem building and the feelings showtime to grow in this group.
I really fell in love with this book and I'm then excited to see where H.A. Wills takes united states of america in the next volume and the rest of the series.

If you've read this volume and so I'm sure which series I am referring to. Its pretty obvious in my opinion. Besides very sneaky of Wills to have the author as her "senpai" which makes information technology OK to have a similar plot and characters and backstory - because the writer knows about it and actively promotes this new version of the same story.
Its and then similar I almost expected a photo of Callie to appear on the screen at the football match! and can match up the guys personalities with the same personalities of the other.
Now I am a fan of the other series. So after saying all of the higher up I did enjoy this new version as well.
I will also notation in bold that the warning in the blurb should be taken into consideration before starting. The abuse is very jarring and I well-nigh stopped after the horrifying prologue. Not for YA without some parental approval beforehand - If you're a parent reading this simply try the prologue if its okay with you and so the remainder will be besides
Personally I didn't similar the manner the author handled the corruption. Information technology was thrown in and then casually in sentences that information technology nearly made light of the situation Callie faced growing upward. Par exemple
"Asshole, I bet I could prove you a affair or ii virtually the real globe. I know what it feels like to have every bone in my pes smashed to the size of pebbles. Do y'all?"
Not everything was bad though. It was boring paced but I was in the mood for a teenage high school drama. The mix of dissimilar supernatural'due south in the harem was actually peachy and some aspects of her PTSD were handled well and made it interesting, the "large cloak-and-dagger" of her by was the main plot driver. With no romance I was surprised that was enough to keep me turning pages actually!
I'll exist looking out for the next. This was the debut novel of Wills so maybe I'yard being likewise harsh, it was a swell start and very accomplished for her first work. But non terribly original

In my opinion, Bound Spirit's forcefulness is the same as its weakness; it follows nearly RH tropes. Its been used and overused and does not add anything to the genre.
Even so, while originality is not what we will keep from this first installment, the author managed to avoid mistakes from previous publications; the heroine isn't boring, there are no plot holes, useless angst, instalove or filler.

At the first of the volume we meet Calli and Mildred. Mildred is Callis aunt and took Calli in when her Dad was sentenced to 5 year in jail. In the pocket-size town they rented a house. And when Calli goes to her bedroom she meets Felix, who is a ghost. Felix is happy that somebody tin can see and talk to him. Calli will nourish the local loftier schoolhouse and so Felix tells her to meet his friend on her first day of schoolhouse.
She agrees and meets Felix, Kaleb, Nolan, Donovan and Connor at her new school. Felix tells the guy that Calli might be nephilim, considering she tin can run across ghosts. But Calli doesn't know nephilim and Donovan gives her a crash course in supernaturals showing her his existent form and telling her, that she is not nephilim. Connor thinks she is a witch. The guys accept her to most of her classes and lunch and decide to adopt her into their group. They really like Calli.
In this volume the group tries to notice out what supernatural Calli is. And on the manner they become friends.
It is a immature adult rh fantasy book and I would not really recommend information technology to people who are not into ya books, because even though Calli had a tough life she is very sugariness and innocent. And every bit y'all already guessed I really loved this book. I like all the main characters and also Callis aunt Mildred. The book was nicely paced, entertaining and keept my attention very well.

Callie is a dichotomy. She is strong and nevertheless agape at the same time. She is trying to make her way in a new state of affairs. She meets five boys who quickly become her closest friends and protectors.
I love that the author takes the fourth dimension to fully introduce the reader to Callie's world and subsequently the guys. The book does not blitz, only it doesn't meander along frantically either. The state of affairs is introduced and slowly congenital upon.
The master characters are all endearing. Secondary characters add together plenty to the plot. The town itself and its surroundings are almost nowadays as characters.
A great YA PNR!

Only my cup of tea...Callie, our FMC, has recently moved to Oregon with her aunt Mildred after suffering years of abuse from her begetter who is currently in prison house for attempted kidnapping of a woman. The day she moves into her new home, she has a surprisingly like shooting fish in a barrel and comfortable interaction with a ghost and beginning mean solar day of school, Callie'south very first conversation involves leaking magic, nephilim, demon hunting and apparently, she'southward a witch now. Introverted and socially awkward? Pfft. Try being a witch with leaking magic who has never had any healthy relationship with anyone and doesn't know shit about
annihilation.
This is my accented favourite trope in reverse harem. The innocent and abused girl with non one but 4+ hot, dangerous and capable men to protect her? Lemme only go scream my brains out and come up back. I've read countless RH academy books with the same trope where a intimidating grouping of men take the girl with shadows in her optics under their wing and protect her only I don't recollect I'll e'er go tired of the trope.
This particular book too had a kind of unique make of humour. I didn't catch any eerily similar innuendos or anything and I enjoyed this. Information technology was written in a kinda traditional RH way with some extra fun substance (if that makes sense?).
Callie is a damn stong pb. She may not exist a skilled fighter but her mental toughness makes her a badass in a very unique kinda mode. In some books, driveling heroines try to movement on by forgetting their trauma. They try their best to not think about it and focus on the future until the i solar day they take to face their past and with the aid of the men she loves, she is able to brand peace or resolve whatever trouble there is but that was so not the example hither. Hither, Callie actively tries to overcome her problems. Instead of shying away, she faces her demons head on and is determined to beat out them, how much ever time it takes and however scarred she is at the stop. She does not need the men for her assist. She can deal with her problems on her own only their back up is greatly appreciated past her. She doesn't need them, she wants them. Callie gets triggered past stairs. Instead of asking someone where the elevator is, she tries to go over her fright of them by using them. She is scared, only she takes deep breaths, grips the banister and tries to descend or ascend as smoothly every bit she can. She tries to not show her fear of them. She doesn't let fear stop her from doing things she wants and I love her for that. We've got one tough cookie hither.
The guys are Felix, Kaleb, Nolan, Donovan and Connor. Nolan'south nature gets revealed a flake later than the others just I don't think it'due south a very large spoiler or annihilation. Thing is, hither are who the guys are:
Felix : Geeky Ghost
Kaleb : The 'perfect' Calorie-free nephilim
Nolan : the playboy Vampire
Donovan : the blunt nighttime nephilim
Connor : the silent wolf shifter
Good book. Funny. Expert pace. Well-written. Nice concept. Practiced plot. Non-so-skillful comprehend. Dainty evolution of relationships a.k.a no insta-lust nor insta-honey. I'll definitely recommend it to fans of the RH genre.
I initially thought this was a trilogy just damn..... A 10 volume serial? Sheesh, let'south hope information technology doesn't get boring halfway through. Thought I could binge the whole thing but alas! Besides late to back out now though. Off to book two! If the author tries to echo the aforementioned jokes or things again though, we're gonna have a problem pretty shortly. Using the word 'renegade' seemed cool at showtime but we employ them four more times? Not then cool. Too many notes to self? Not so cool, even if I enjoy them at present. Anyway, allow's hope for the all-time! 🤞
...moreAnd it was good. I do not want to go into details, because you should totally go into the story unaware of what you lot'll exist facing, simply just know that it's a good one. There were times when it was slightly bordering on cheesy and dramatic, merely the author e'er managed to pull you lot back The book had a shocking start, simply one that is bound to get your attention - it definitely got mine. All I could think of was "If this is but the prologue, then what the hell is going to happen in the chief story".
And it was practiced. I do not want to go into details, because y'all should totally go into the story unaware of what you'll be facing, but but know that it's a good one. At that place were times when it was slightly adjoining on cheesy and dramatic, but the writer always managed to pull you lot dorsum just in time and throw a heavy dose of "existent feelings" on you.
And even though nosotros got to know the characters pretty well here, I even so have a lot of questions and guesses left and I cannot wait to explore it all in the adjacent volume.
At present, let'due south exist real for a minute, okey? January 2019 is way also long a time to make us readers wait! Just put us out of our misery and release the second book sonner. Pretty delight?

Wow, okay this book came out of nowhere. I was starting and stopping at least 3-4 other high school/fantasy/RH romance books and this ane merely stuck.
This book had all the right things that I dear in a story: action, a fabricated family of shut friends, romance(ish....well not in this book but I can feel information technology coming soon), a strong heroine that takes no craps and has gone through her fair share of things.

4.5-5 Stars,Wow, okay this volume came out of nowhere. I was starting and stopping at least iii-4 other loftier school/fantasy/RH romance books and this one just stuck.
This book had all the correct things that I love in a story: activeness, a made family of close friends, romance(ish....well not in this book only I tin can feel it coming soon), a strong heroine that takes no craps and has gone through her fair share of things.
Why is it so difficult to write reviews on books that are amazing. I did go in to this book pretty bullheaded, I briefly read the synopsis, but information technology was more of a lite skim. I think it was skilful I didn't know too much going in to this book, it made it that much more enjoyable.
Callie was put through the ringer growing upwards, merely then one mean solar day her psycho dad decides to try and kidnap a adult female, which he fails and puts him in jail, making Callie go in to her aunt Mildred'south custody. There they move to Twin Cedar Pass (a small boondocks in Oregon), where she is transferred in to TCP high school and meets a friendly ghost, Felix (love him), and his iv friends: Kaleb, Donovan, Nolan and Connor. They are all supernatural in their ain way, don't want to go far to what they are simply in case.
The atmosphere of this book reminded me of Twilight, just beingness in the Pacific Due north Due west and Callie coming from Arizona, just that is where the similarities end. This book had a bully group of guys that get out of their way to help ease her transition in to knowing about the supernatural world.
I loved each of the guys in their own manner, the just one that I didn't become the nigh chemical science with Callie is Kaleb. I feel like all of the other guys had that something special with Callie, simply Kaleb was more dissecting this as a psychologist would rather than a friend, which I get considering that is how he is, just if this is RH I need to feel that romantic chemistry as well. Hopefully that changes in the adjacent volume.
Can't wait to read more on this series, this is definitely a Boring BURN romance, they are still all friends in this book no romantic things happen which I recollect is why I enjoyed this book then much. The fashion the relationship is progressing reminds me of The Cardinal Bird, I savour getting to see the friendship that this grouping of misfits has, and and then hopefully in the next volume we see a natural progression to romantic feelings.

Since GoodReads took fashion the notes capability on their app. I'm having to use my reviews equally a way to help myself call back the story line when the next book comes out.Callie has suffered torturous experiences at the hands of her father for years. Subsequently her father gets arrested and thrown in prison for an attempted kidnapping, her maternal aunt takes over guardianship and they move from Arizona to a sleepy town in Oregon. Their little business firm is haunted past a teenage ghost named Felix who is surprised that Callie can come across him. He tells her that he volition innovate her to his friends the next 24-hour interval at school. They meet upwardly in front of the school and non and so subtly land Callie is a witch and pretty much the friends are supernatural too. Kaleb is a lite nephlium, Donovan is a night nephilum, Conner is a wolf shifter, Nolan is a vampire, and Felix is a ghost who was a homo friend that was murder along with his family 4mons earlier. Throughout the volume, Callie suffers from flashbacks of abuses by her father along with moments of elemental power of a loftier degree. After a strong reaction to bivouac, Callie goes into a catatonic state that scares the fellas and they take her back to her aunt who Conner figured out is a witch. The friends chosen her aunt, Mildred, out nearly letting Callie learn nearly her magic blindly but she had reasons to want to ease Callie into slowly learning about her witchy side what with her traumatic past and all. Felix had to end Callie's "dream" to pull her out and he witness one of the memoriea of her father burning her alive. Felix is securely affected by the scene and opens up to Callie to pull her out of her dream. Callie explains her torturous past to the guys but leaves out the gory details that Felix was exposed to. The guys observe Felix being less than bubbly subsequently the episode. Mildred decides to drop a flop of knowledge on Callie and the guys. Turns out Callie is a spirit witch which is rare and her POS father was abusing her to break the bind on her magic. The witch counsel along with the wolf shifters, who were bodyguards, betrayed the Spirit witches who were meant to atomic number 82 the witches. Mildred is suspicious that the counsel was killing off the spirit witch lines considering they didn't want to give up control.
Overall, enjoying this deadening burn serial because the storyline is intriguing.

A solid read! I enjoyed this volume, even if non an instant favorite. Totally a me matter, just I think I'one thousand over the whole "FMC getting driveling half to death and having trauma and coming together guys who assist fix her " kind of thing.Callie was a good character, if not a petty more extroverted than I would have expected. Subsequently how badly she was abused, I didn't call up she would've just so hands accepted the guys friendships similar she did. Still, the set up was interesting, if not super quick.
The guys were bang-up, especially the ghost (i cannot for the life of me recollect his proper noun, Zach?) and Connor, the Wolf shifter. I like that they both seem instantly connected to her, while the others are friendly. (I'm at weird phase right now where I don't like reading most the guys in the harem nearly other girls like that, even if not fully sexually lol 😭)
I'g glad some of the mystery of what she is got announced, and with the guys effectually and so they know too. It is a slow burn, and in that location will be 10 books out I judge, so it's interesting to try and imagine where this is all going. There is besides some MM.

I feel the author down played Callie's abuse too. If she was going to throw her right into a group of guys that are bigger and so life she should accept not made her abuse so horrifying. No one daughter or 3 ane/ii stars.
This volume is similar to the veil diaries. It wasn't terrible and so I volition go along on to the second volume. There were a few things that stuck out, like the abuse to Callie. It was very disturbing at one point and I had tears running downwardly my face up. Be forewarned it's non for the weak of middle. I feel the writer down played Callie's abuse as well. If she was going to throw her correct into a grouping of guys that are bigger so life she should have not fabricated her corruption so horrifying. No one girl or guy would live through that and be okay with any interaction with another especially so soon. Aye, information technology's a book but it made it unrealistic.
Also, what was with the Latin? The boys kept throwing information technology around and kindle for some reason doesn't interpret Latin. I had to go along looking it upwards because yes, I needed to know what the hell was said.
I liked the guys and Aunt Mildred though and hope the story progresses into more of a plot likewise what has happened. On to the next!

Bound Spirit was a hitting for me during a string of misses. What actually blew me away was the phenomenal character-building. I originally picked upward this volume because of the hinted at supernatural elements, only I truly believe that I'd accept loved it just as immensely, fifty-fifty without the supernatural parts, because of the incredible characters and their relationships.I cared for Callie immediately. She grew up with a monstrous father who tortured her for years, trying to brand Callie use her extraordinary abilities, over and once more. Callie unsurprisingly and understandably developed PTSD, which fabricated information technology difficult for to feel safe and open up to others. I thought the author portrayed this disorder perfectly, because it felt real, raw, and made my heart hurt for Callie.
I liked Callie, a lot, simply non as much as I did the guys. Actually – I LOVED them. Kaleb, Nolan, Donovan, Connor and Felix – don't even ask me to option a favorite – because I can't. I mean, at that place'due south a couple that I favored an itty bitty more, but I'k not willing to give whatsoever of them upwardly. Each guy had an unique personality, and played an integral office in the story. Similar Callie, they'd all experienced some type of tragedy, and their combined sorrow made their brotherhood incredibly strong.
This series is supposed to become total-out reverse harem in the following volume(s) and that makes me a little fleck nervous. Equally of the end of book one, Callie and her guys are 1, big, strong, cuddly family, and I'm afraid that one time romance is introduced, the great dynamic won't ever be the aforementioned over again. It's non that I don't believe in this author, I've just read more bad RHs than expert, and it'south fabricated me incredibly weary.
I shaved off .five stars because I recall that this book could have done with a little more insight into the supernatural.

What a potent and stunning first book by Wills. This author has a shitload of talent and a skill with storytelling. Bound Spirit is a darker YA/NA RH that has an excellent stride, potent characters and an awesome plot. With the start chapter opening setting the scene for the abuse that Callie suffers, I knew that this novel was going to be full of emotions and gut wrenching scenes. And boy, was I right. Wills may take ticked the usual YA boxes, new school, new boondocks, troubled by, bitchy school rival, but Bound Spirit has a much more than mature feel to information technology and the darker tones throughout definitely pull this story out of the YA realm. Callie may have crippling PTSD and a backstory from Hell only she's no whiney teenager, instead Callie comes beyond as fierce and brave and very mature for her seventeen years. The guys are also mature and each of them accept their own unique personalities and backstory and the relationship and friendships between themselves and Callie feel natural.
Wills writing is bold and confident, it is evident that much fourth dimension and alive has gone into creating this novel; there is non a mistake in sight. The plot flows beautifully from scene to scene and the dialogue is organic and insightful. In that location is a slight Veil Diaries experience - fingers crossed information technology won't exist so tedious burn - but the story and mix of characters is unique. There is a trigger warning for abuse, the PTSD scenes can be quite consuming, but no cliffhanger ending. This is tiresome burn, not fifty-fifty a kiss, but information technology is and so worth it; bring on January 2019 and book two.
